Team Member Bios
Barry Conrad
Barry is a Finance (B.B.A.) junior at the University of Oklahoma and will graduate summa cum laude in the Spring of 2012. Originally from Boulder, CO, Barry plans to attend either optometry school or pursue a career in investment banking or venture capital. This summer Barry will be working as a venture capital intern with the Oklahoma Life Science Fund.
Patrick Luong
Patrick is a Finance/Accounting/M.I.S. (B.B.A.) junior at the University of Oklahoma and will graduate summa cum laude in the Spring of 2012. Patrick aspires to be an actuary. He is from Oklahoma City, OK and will be interning with Koch Industries in Wichita, KS this summer.
Lucas Rice
Lucas is an Industrial Engineering (B.S.) junior at the University of Oklahoma and will be graduating in the Spring of 2012. Lucas is from Fort Gibson, Oklahoma and plans on pursuing an M.B.A. so that he may make a positive impact on start-up companies. This summer he will be interning at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, OK.
Samantha Toth
Samantha is an International Security Studies and Economics (Dual-B.A.) senior at the University of Oklahoma and will graduate summa cum laude in the Fall of 2011. Samantha is from Warrenville, IL and plans to pursue a career in international economic development. This summer she will be interning with the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C.
Fun Facts
- Patrick prides himself on his musical taste. Fittingly, his favorite song is “Sadness and Sorrow.”
- Barry wakes up every morning expecting to receive his acceptance letter to Hogwarts. He is still waiting.
- Being the only female member of the team is a tough job for Samantha. However, she takes her position in stride and the team has yet to be late to soccer practice.
- During a recent trip to Quizno’s, Lucas was told by a female cashier that he has “facial features many would pay for.” Lucas is now a lifelong customer.
- Spending so much time together has allowed the team to create many new words. Their latest creation is ‘Strugglebus’. The patent is pending.
- The team is going to Hong Kong and China this summer to finalize the EYEChina business plan with partner institutions.

Business Summary
EYEChina is a social venture that will provide one million residents of rural Sichuan with high-quality, accessible, and affordable cataract surgeries by 2020. Through careful market and incentive analyses, the EYEChina team has designed a plan which overcomes the current barriers to cataract surgery in Sichuan. By utilizing existing resources and leveraging established relationships, the EYEChina solution creates a cataract care network that is both effective and sustainable.
